Free AI flashcards — questions answered
Is the AI flashcard generator free?
Yes. Without an account, you can make 3 generation attempts per 24 hours, with 1–25 cards each. Reviewing, editing and studying saved decks are free. During high traffic, generation may be temporarily unavailable.
Can I create flashcards from PDFs and photos?
Yes. Add up to 4 files, 10 MB total: PDF, DOCX, TXT, CSV or JPG, PNG and WebP photos. Scanned PDFs are supported too. Very long or large materials may need to be split into smaller sections.
Do I need to sign in?
No. Generation, studying and CSV downloads work without signup. An account is only required when you continue to the full Smartby app.
Where are my flashcards saved?
Up to 20 decks are saved in this browser’s localStorage. They do not sync between devices. Others using the same browser profile can see them. Clearing site data deletes the decks.
Are AI flashcards always accurate?
No. AI may misread a photo or simplify an answer. Check the result against your source. You can edit every flashcard.
How do I download flashcards?
Open a deck and choose “Download CSV”. The file contains questions, answers and hints. Keep it as a backup or import it into a tool that supports CSV.

Yes. You add the file and Smartby builds flashcards from its content. The same works for one of your own notes, or for a topic alone if you have no file at hand.
Are flashcards in Smartby free?
Yes. Creating, editing and reviewing your own flashcards is free with no usage limits. AI generation uses the renewable material allowance. Paid plans have unlimited AI.
How is this different from ready-made flashcard sets?
Smartby creates flashcards from the material you add, so you can practise concepts from your own classes. Check that the set covers what you need — AI may leave out important information. If you want a public library of ready-made sets to browse, Smartby is not built for that.
Can the flashcards contain errors?
Yes. AI-generated content may contain errors, so it is worth reading the set before you study it — dates, formulas, and definitions especially.
